Types of Bingo

There are an incredible number of different types of online bingo, but the four most crucial variations for a new player to learn about are UK bingo or 90 ball bingo, and US bingo or 75 ball bingo. All forms of bingo involve marking off numbers that are called from a ticket or card, but the size of the cards and the particular ways to win can be quite different.

UK Bingo or 90 Ball Bingo

UK bingo, or 90 Ball Bingo, is the type played in most of Europe, Australia and many other places, as well as on many online bingo sites. It uses a 27-space card, with a 3 by 9 grid. In a standard game, each row contains 4 numbers and 5 blank spaces. The first column will contain numbers from 1 to 9, the second column numbers from 10 to 19, the third from 20 to 29, and so on until the last column contains numbers from 80 to 90.

There are three ways to win a standard game of 90 ball UK bingo. First of all is to mark off all the numbers in a row, which is called a Line. The second way to win is to mark of two rows, which is called Two Lines. Last of all, one can win by marking off all the numbers on a card, which is called a Full House.

The different ways of winning are usually played as stages of a single game of UK bingo. Once the Line win is declared, the game moves to the Two Line stage, then the Full House stage. Generally, the biggest prize goes to the Full House, followed by the Two Line, and then the Line. Some of the biggest games, however, such as the UK National Bingo Game, only play a Full House game.

In online bingo, the cards are marked off automatically for players, as the games move very quickly. Tickets for online UK bingo are usually quite cheap and allow players to play a great many more cards simultaneously than they would be able to when playing at a land based bingo hall.

Games of 90 ball bingo continue until all 90 numbers are called or the Full House winner has been declared, with pauses as each stage of the game is resolved.

US Bingo or 75 Ball Bingo

75 ball bingo is mostly played in the USA or online. It uses a card with a 5 by 5, 25-space arrangement of numbers. The first column contains numbers from 1 to 15, the second contains numbers from 16 to 30, the third numbers 31 to 45, the fourth numbers 46 to 60, and the fifth column contains numbers from 61 to 75.

Typically, there will be a number of free spaces marked on a 75 ball bingo card. The middle space is often free, though there will regularly be many more free spaces on a US bingo card.

The ways to win in 75 ball bingo can vary wildly. The most straightforward game involves marking off a horizontal, vertical or diagonal line of numbers as they are called. Many US bingo halls, land based or online, will mark specific patterns on the bingo cards. In these variants, a player wins when the numbers that make up the pattern on the card have been called. Another popular game is to mark off the four corners of the bingo card.

Games of 75 ball bingo last until all 75 numbers have been called or until a winner has been declared.
